Advantage of high torque at stall
... not to mention light wt.
Here is a look at the future of not just cars in general, but also of sports cars in particular.* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXtPZ1qp4ik * I admit I will miss the IC engine when it's gone.

Thought I was watching a slot car or a cat shot off a carrier the way it pulled away so fast.
As far as missing the IC engine, I wouldn't miss it at all as soon as I got kicked in the rear with all that torque...I'd be all smiles. Last edited by stlrj; 12-18-2006 at 05:47 AM.. |

I think these are brushless DC motors or permanent magnet AC motors. (I don't have sound to go with the video on my computer) Torque is proportional to how much current you can put through them. At speed this is limited by how much voltage you have (to overcome the back emf of the spinning rotor) and how fast you can get the magnetic field to rotate. |

Yes, generally, torque is max at 0 RPM. If it weren't for the IC engine, I wouldn't be into car. When the IC is gone, I will simply drive older cars. That said, I really appreciate the electric motor and it has its place in the future.

I've always thought that Wankel would be the perfect hybrid to pair with an electric motor -- it revs real high, it's small, and it has poor low-end torque.
Anybody want to hack up a 912?

Did'nt they say it did and 11.2 at 112? They neglected 60ft time. There are many competent drag cars that can do that for 10% of the carrera cost, they were set up. Obviously the carrera and the ferrari are not straight line of the dig cars.
