true power of my engine?

I've got a 77 2.7 for my 70T, all rebuilt nice and slick.Stock except for turbo covers, upgraded cam oiling, head studs, 70 model T exhaust and webbers. It's got a new distributor, but stock for a 2.7. Does anyone have that configuration? I want to know what to expect in the way of horses. I know what everyone says as to how to make it faster with rs pistons and such, but I want to know what to expect from what I've got. I'm thinking 175 to 190, but does anyone know for sure? I'll be installing it soon and I'm out of cash for more upgrades. Tell me what you think guys, It's got to be better than the original 2.2!?

Assuming it's in good shape (compression etc) then I wouldn't expect much more than the stock output of a 2.7 plus maybe 8-12bhp (?) for the backdated exhaust, which definitely will help power somewhat and will also sound better.

In Bruce Andersons' book he built a very similar motor. The only difference was that he used E cams and euro 2.7RS pistons that I believe have the same compression ratio as your pistons. Anyway that motor got about 220HP on the dyno at 6000 RPM. I would think that you'd be in 200 range with your setup because of the improved induction and exhaust. I think you'll be very pleased. Now that you got rid of the unresponsive cis injection, that leaves you free to use any cam. Put in E or solex cams and you will be pleased. Piston clearance should be checked if you have stock pistons. 220hp for this set-up w/e cams sounds right. And miles better throttle response so it seems like even more.

I dunno about 220bhp out of a US 2.7 w/ just Webers, E cams and early exhaust. The 73 RS 'only' put out 210bhp, and that was with the same compression? (8.5:1) but hotter cams and more aggressive timing, RS-spec MFI, and the same exhaust as adgx's 70T.

Andersons Book shows a overlay dyno graph of the RS spec and the BA special, 2.7L.

The RS has a smiggen more top end and about 210 hp.

The Special has a fair amount of advantge in the mid range.
On paper, it shouldn't happen, but there it is.

The RS pistons are probably required to clear the E cams(Mr. Anderson seems to think so). They have valve relief pockets in the tops which are lacking on the CIS pistons. The CIS pistons -may- work, but I wouldn't bet my motor on it.

The 2.7L I am building has Webers, 9.7:1 pistons, Solex cams, and a little port polishing.
I'm hoping for 220/225hp.
Now, if I can just find the time to finish it...

But you see guys- I just dont have the mean green to put in any more cams and stuff. I've got what Ive got and rather than spend a bunch more on the motor now, I've got to finish the rest of the car. What I'm trying to find out is, well, has anyone else used this engine combination before and how did it run? I know what I can buy to make it faster/better, the list goes on and on as long as the cash holds out.nI think the first two replies to my question are probibly the most valid here. Anyone else?!

Put it on a chassis Dyno and for about $100 you can find out exactly what it is making at the rear wheels. Figure about a 15% loss from the crank to the rear wheels.

I read Bruce Anderson's bit pretty carefully. I think the key is the bit about swapping in European Carrera pistons and cylinders - ie 95mm and hence 3.0 litres. Count on a drop in hp with keeping the smaller pistons. ie 2.7/3 = 90% = approx 200.

Still a lot better than my 175hp. I wonder how much EXACTLY the exhaust alone is worth. Bruce fires around numbers from 10-15hp. That would do for me......for now.
