How about the first oil change?
Seems like everyone screws that one up one way or another. :D |

I actually wondered the same question when I read your response. I figured there MIGHT be some sort of a paintable patch but you wrote that you repainted them which sounded like a full repaint job... struck me as, "Why would anyone do that?" So, add me into the smartass category....old-timers division:) |
Replacing the dome light switch on the drivers side trying to feed the new wire from under the dash to the back of the switch is nearly impossible

Welding the new engine mounts for the short block Chevy engine.

Try pulling the engine wiring harness back into the engine compartment thru that little hole! Loads of fun!

1. Clutch spring. Yes the washers help, it still ain't easy.
2. Rear ride height. (Front is easy) 3. I will see your Cab top and raise you a rear seal. Oval Case+round seal=big leak. I had to bore it out (assembled), make a 0.010" ring shim and install a new seal. I took the engine out three time before I figured this out. Pictures to prove it... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1167775574.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1167775597.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1167775616.jpg Who can top this? |

Milt,
Sorry if I misintepreted your tone. It is hard to gauge the written word some times. I think everyone here benefits from your addiction to the Board, so don't let my mistake change that. Mark |

Mark,
you have a PM. Ron |
Allan, thanks for the hot water tip on the hood badge gasket! I'll give it a try.

Everything I have touched in the last year.
I also vote for CV joints - just plain nasty. Most frustrating however has to be when any of the million or so allen heads on the car round out. Especially the ones on the head studs. Oh yeah and checking your perfect "runs like a top" engine while you have it out so you can post about how great your leak down numbers are only to find to bad valves - very very frustrating. |
Things that sucked and I haven't blocked out of my memory:
- Attaching the little retaining clip on the accelerator linkage in the engine compartment. - Squeezing that O gasket for the shift rod through the metal bracket. - Bashing the clutch helper spring off the rod (came off in layers). - Trying to attach a targa bar cover from a different car when the powdercoater ruined mine. I have a *long* list of unpleasant 944 jobs ;) |
gas tank flap spring
Nut's
replacing the gas tank flap spring while the newly painted fender is on the car. |
1. Trying unsucessfully to mate the engine back to the tranny after a clutch job. After two days of back-breaking struggling, discovering the flywheel sent to me was wrong-it was a for a 964.
2. Removing the fuel injection hoses for replacement on a 3.2 without dropping the engine. My sanity was tested and my back nearly crippled on that one. |
