Wide Band O2 - EGO - Dash Gauge: Why?
As I move forward with my EFI conversion, I'll be using a wide band O2 sensor and a complete (TEC3r) system that permits total Air/Fuel programming. This will be a single sensor sytem.
Question: Considering that tuning will occur with a laptop to the ECU until desired results are achieved, and re-tuning or total function results can be audited at any time by plugging in the lap top and taking real-time readings or by running data logs under load, WHAT on-going use is it to have a dash mounted gauge to provide normal operational AFR readings in a non-racing environment? I'm thinking it's an unnecessary 'every day' gauge on the dash, although I guess it would look cool... Thoughts? Thanks, Jim

You're absolutely right, which I say having had a dash gauge with a left-or-right-bank selector switch for my system..,.which I just removed int he interest of lightness and simplicity.

I agree, it's not much use after the tuning is complete unless you think you may have a problem. I'm planning to have my ECU log it just in case, but I'm not planning to have a dash gage. When I get my car running (hopefully soon), I'll drive around with a laptop hooked up for the first couple hundred miles until I put it on a dyno for final tuning.

Because whan something goes wrong in the future (which it will), you will be glad you had the instrumentation to see it before, or as it happens. You don't need it everyday, just on the day when you have a problem. I'd rather have a gauge than detonate my engine into expensive scrap metal. Instrumentation is your friend. My 2 cents, but I am an instrumentation freak.

I have a tec3r in my 3.6 conversion and you NEED the 02 gauge. Things happen and it's too late once you review your data logs. I'm using an innovate Motorsports gauge and sensor. I removed the drivers side air vent installed a black backing plate and it looks like the factory put it in.
Install it, you won't be sorry!! Don't and you will. If your interested lets exchange bin files. |

If, after purchase and setting up your system, you find it less helpful in the long run, what do you do with it? Maybe you would consider renting it to others to recoup your investment. Just a thought.
