at 30- 40 or so mph a sharp turn (sort of AX style) will certainly cause my front end to plow badly

You might also notice with your wheel turned at that angle, how much negative camber has resulted and how your tire contact patch has diminished in area.

Since tire adhesion has much to do with the contact patch, it should come as no surprise that your front end would lose grip.
