3.2 turbo conversion guys..What's going on?
I am soon heading back to the states and will start work on my turbo conversion for my 86, 3.2. Just wondering how every one else is doing with their projects. How are the motors holding up? Clutch, transmission? How about some pics.

Ben, what actually happened. Was it a burnt hose that caused the waste gate to fail?

Next plans for the car are to wire up my twin plugged heads (possibly using a Vitesse Racing Wasted Spark setup) and perhaps go with Protomotive's MAP Sensing ECU. That'll be the end of it for me. Merv, I have spent more time reading up on this project than I should have. Can't wait to get settled in and start the final stages of planning. I hope to begin the wrenching in August; I would like to sooner but the move and a baby on the way take precedence. At least I will be able to drive my car again and re-learn my skills. Two years of driving only golf carts has not improved my driving.

in haste to drive his car today, Phil thought some vandalism had occured when his seatbelt no longer fit.
![]() it only took twenty minutes dead on the side of the road to figure out the afm boot had partially blown off. my car's doing well, no problems. And I imagine Phil's will be just fine |

he's trouble shooting the lc1, that thing is confussing, also can't get the fuel gauge to work right. What was funny is me pushing his car out of traffic, and staring at the ass end for like 10 minutes wondering why it died.

Off topic -but-
Hey Ben Parrish- saw your location Green Turtle Cay!. I used to work for Charlie Bethel whose family own Abaco Yacht services up Black Sound (about 12 yrs ago). I lived on Anna Cay just outside Hopetown Hbr on a private Island but came to Green Turtle Cay to Haul their sportfish for a bottom job. -Green Turtle Cay is a quiet but friendly place as with most of the Abacos- cannot imagine spending more than a few weeks there though- talk about Island fever!!!!! Twin plugged, small world. Bethels still own AYS; Scott, Everette, Phillip and Crystal are still there also. Yep, kinda confining here. Love the sailing. Been running the Green Turtle Club for about two years now. Ready to get back to drive and play with the car.

Merv and Jerry, I have read about that rubber elbow blowing off or tearing. Is the stock unit strong enough with the inproved clamps? Or, is it better to source one in silicone?

Yes, the OEM rubber boot will eventually tear... there's a lot of pressure in there under boost and over time, it will weaken where the boot meets the throttle body and rip
![]() Your best option is to get a silicone 90 degree tight radius elbow and cut it to size/length and use the constant torque clamps to hold the sucker there permanently. Works fine for me and withstands 1.2+ bar easily ![]()

my deal with the rubber boot.
I didn't want to bore the afm for the ICV rubber sleeve, also I didn't know what to do with the "pipeline" in the rear of the boot. after a month or so my boot split down by the throttle body. I put a new one on there and I'll find out how long it lasts. I figured sometime in the future I'd get rid of the afm. a new boot and washing the oil/grime off the afm lip and a good clamp have worked fine for me. mine has never slipped off. it's not the best solution but it's worked for 4 months If I can find the right penetrators I'll make silicone one with the ICV and pipeline connections |
