How Do I Know if a Short Shift Kit Is Installed?

How can one tell if your car already has a short shift kit installed by previous owner?

If you lift up the carpet around the shifter, and check for one of the 1/2" thick cast aluminum spacer plates that the Weltmeister and BAE kits utilize ... you could be sure about those two kits. The factory kit would be a little more difficult, and measuring the length of shifter sticking down below the pivot-pin of the shifter would probably be required.

The weltmeister kit also has a black shift lever vs. chrome for the early cars...I don't recall if the SC stock lever is chrome or black?

FWIW I just tried and returned a weltmeister kit because the shift rod was WAY too short, something like 6" shorter than stock. I had to lean forward slightly (my shoulder lifted from the seatback) just to reach it. Hated it.

I previously had an older target motorsports kit on there, which is the type that only replaces the pivot ball at the end of the lever, so you have to re-epoxy the lever to it. I actually liked it a lot better, but at some point down the line I broke/moved the epoxy joint, or maybe it was never right the first time. So for now I went back to the stock shifter and like the "lightness" a lot even though it feels like I'm moving my arm 2 feet across the car for each shift...
