Cooling tin...which way to install on SC?

I have an 80 SC that I recently rebuilt and installed. It is running warmer that I had hoped for and am not sure if I installed the cooling tin correctly. These have the cutouts and I believe they should be installed in a certain direction.

Which way do the cutouts face...towards the crankcase or towards the heads? How much difference would it make if they are installed incorrectly?

Thanks.

Per Bruce Anderson's Handbook, second edition, p. 176 ... the cutouts are nearer the heads.

Thanks Warren. I am relatively certain I installed them the same direction as the end pieces which would be towards the crankcase. If I remember correctly...the end pieces must face the crank...no real way to mess them up. I will verify tonight.
