Hey Les,
I'm going to stand by '83 and '84 as being the only years the factory offered Kiln Red (Ziegelrot) as a standard color. I've checked the paint charts back to '82 up to the 90's nothing but '83 and '84 is shown. Anything could be special ordered so you have to factor that in. I wonder about your '76 what does the paint code on the car say? I'd be curious to get to the bottom of this. I have heard '83 and '84 only from multiple sources so your info seems to go against all I've heard but I'll keep an open mind if you can come up with anything. Also keep in mind that there were several colors that looked similar over the years. PM me if you like. Here's a link to the glasurit color charts they also confirm '83 and '84 ONLY http://www.glasurit.com/COLOR/COLOR-Search/ And another from an Australian 928 page http://landsharkoz.com/htm/sc/colourred.htm |

Ziegelrot Paint
Hi Kilodawg
I have an 82 sc targa that is ziegelrot. The car still has factory paint on it. I have just last week repainted the front bumper and spoiler. (stone chips and a crack in the spoiler) The colour chart at UAP has the ziegelrot listed under the 1982 paint chips. The car did not have a paint code plate on it so it might be a custom "carry over year" colour from the factory. Thanks dave... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1205860591.jpg |
My personal fave (okay I'm biased). This is what my car SHOULD be (has the paint code for it). Currently black but will be returned to this eventually. . .
I love the "Easter egg" pastel colors on 911s in general. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1205861157.jpg |
There you go Jeff, that's what to shoot for! That is one sweet looking mid year Mex Blue 911.
As to common colors, I think it depends on the years. Certainly, Guards Red for the 80s. 90s and 2000s, my guess would be black and silver. Least common? There's probably a lot of colors that were available but rarely used. I like the pastels, too. There was a really cool color called Summer Yellow in the 80s, you rarely see it. |
Yea, that's one of my "go by" pics. I don't know whose car that is, but that's what I'm shooting for as far as a final look. Lotta' work. Some P.O. really did a number on my ride. Everything - and I mean EVERYTHING - got painted black. The trim, the door handles, the targa bar. . . everything.
To date I've got the targa bar done, the door handles, the window trim. Mirrors are next. Heck of a lot of work though. I swear, non-visionary owners shouldn't be let anywhere near paint guns. |
