Another great WEVO product: rear swaybar mounts

Here's a pic by pic blow of a little project on a 993 bodied racecar that had pulled the swaybar mounts, despite being reinforced.

Here's a shot of the old mount after removal:



Here's the area prepped for the new mount:

WEVO keeps making parts that I need to replace.

General sway bar mount install question:

How do you line these up once the old ones have been cut out?

The mounts all welded up:
















The mounts are superior, due to the fact that they aren't made from thin stamped sheetmetal, but rather a beefy cast part. The threads are tapped into the thickest part of the mount, and there are substantial reinforcing ribs to transfer the energy to the chassis without flex. It's that flex that fatigues the stock mounts, and leads to failure.

You'd break the chassis before you'd break these mounts. And they weigh very little more than the typical mounts that have been heavily reinforced by welding in extra brackets.

The beauty of these is the time saved, and the joy of never having to worry about going back at a later date to fix cracks and tears. Something that usually happens with even the reinforced stock mounts.

The factory reinforced units are almost as much as Hayden's WEVO units. It's money very very well spent. These are definitely a one-time expense.

But you are welding them to sheet stock right? I'd be checking for cracks anyway as those beefy cast parts are transfering load directly into sheet metal, albiet over a somewhat larger area, but still.

It's quite simple, really. The shape of the mount matches the the shape of the bump on the chassis. There are ribs on the outside that meet up with the seam on the bottom of the chassis.

It helps to bolt them on the swaybar, and hold them up in place like I did on this car. It will all make sense once you get after it.

Yes, but it's 3 layers of sheet. I also seam weld much more area than the factory did. Almost the entire perimeter of the mount. If you saw it in person, you'd see where it gets it's strength. (The mount-to-chassis union, that is.)

I looks beefy. I wish I had a pic of the before mount. Was this bar (22mm?) mounted to the above stock mounts? Breaking the mount free?

Yes, that bar was mounted to the stock mounts. It's a 32mm hollow bar. The old mounts were reinforced, but whomever did the work, neglected to tie the bracing into the nuts. That's why you can see in the first pic how the nuts just tore right out of the mount.

If you look at the WEVO mount, you can see how beefy the portion is where the bolts thread in.

Well I was saving for the new 901 gearbox cross-member anyway, might save just a little longer and order these mounts as well!

Definitely stout! I knew that bar was huge. How big is your front bar to balance all.

I'm not sure what the front bar is. This is the first time I've seen this car, and I was commissioned to fix the swaybar mounts, and reinforce the torque tube where the 935 spring plates were stressing the chassis.

Dave, my boss, will be co-driving this car in an enduro with the Alfa Romeo club. It's a 993 bodied SC chassis with a 3.8, and ERP suspension all around, including coil-overs. Pretty sweet car.

You mean on the WEVO website? I don't know. We've already gotten them from Hayden, so I assume if you call him, you can get them.

Sweet! My drivers side mount is trashed. Might be a good option if the price is right.
