Engine Reinstall

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else followed Wayne's "engine drop made easy" procedure? I did and it was a great help for my 1st engine drop! My engine is now rebuilt (1983 911 SC Cab. 37k miles-- 3 broken head studs) and ready for the reinstall process.

Just wondering if anyone did the engine drop with the trans left in the car... I would appreciate any advice/tips/pics on getting the engine mated to the trans. (while in the car) and back into the engine bay!!

If it is better to drop the trans and mate to the engine while on a cart, does anyone have a procedure for dropping a 915 trans.?

If the engine is already removed, it's just a matter of supporting the gearbox while you remove all the attached wires, CV joints, shift linkage, trans. mounts, etc. You might find reinstalling the drivetrain is a lot easier when the engine/gearbox are already mated.

Part of this procedure (found in the Tech articles section right here) details the tranny removal with the engine. It does tell you what to disconnect. It will be easier to just do the tranny removal w/o the engine there. Then you can put the two together on the floor and reinstall as one unit.

I removed my engine for rebuild without the transmission. I did this because working alone it was easier for me to handle this way. For the re-install I removed the transmission and joined them on the jack. I used an ATV jack to lower and lift the engine.All of this worked for me and I will likely do it the same way in the future. There are many who vote otherwise but it worked for me.
