Best Brake Pads for the Street

OK, I did a search but didn't really find anything very useful (surprisingly). My '71 911 T is in need of new brake pads (front). It's been awhile (15 years) since I last installed new pads when I did a complete brake system rebuild. As can be seen I don't put many miles on the car. I last put Mintex Silver pads on them and was very pleased with them, no noise or dust. I've been looking around though and I see that some people have complained about the dust, also I remember them being pretty expense now them seem to be one of the cheapest, have things changed? I need to order them soon so any input would be greatly appreciated. I only do street driving.

you are going to get a lot of opinions on this one ....

you should have asked an easier question .... like blondes, redheads or brunettes ...

or the ever famous here ... coupe, targa or cabriolet .....

My choice would be stock ..

on the brake pads and the hair color .... and of course coupe on the last ??

Thanks, Targa if it matters.

Kevin, Steve Weiner sold me a set of Mintex and I think they are great. Good stopping, dust is not obnoxious, and they wear well.

+1 on the Mintex pads. I installed a set when I rebuilt my front brakes, based on Steve's recommendation. I've been pleased with them.

Thanks for the replies, looks like Mintex....unless we get some more OEM fans before I go to sleep.

Mintex, Textar and Jurid are all OEM pads.

My vote is for Metal Masters. Less dusting than any of the OEM pads and easy on the rotors. Perfect street pads.

I did a similar search recently and came up with porterfield r4s pads as best "mainly street and some track" pads. Ferodo was a close second, but supposedly the r4s dust less and easier to clean. For all street, there is also an r4 pad, I believe.

Alas, I am about to start an engine build for my car so can not speak from personal experience. But hope this helps.

Any of the stock oem pads. I like Ferodo 2500's a lot too.

And now are all brands of the same brake company.

Mintex and I have a box of spares for when they wear out. I hate brake dust.

R4-S is the street(able) pad. R4 is a race pad. I've been running the R4-S for about six months. The work great hot or cold. No dust and not a peep noise. -J

Ran Porterfield r4 on my SC and they were great. Little dust, amazing stopping. Life not as good as stock.

I went with Jurids. They are made in Germany and were about $20. Totally quite, very linear brake feel. I also use these on my X3 DD and they last me about 40K miles on that car.

Thanks everybody for your input. I went ahead and ordered another set of Mintex. I was pleased with the last set, they wear a little quick but they're easy on the rotors and I only drive about 2,000 miles a year.
