Nice bearing install.......NOT!

Now I know why my front right was making so much noise! I had a warped rotor so I decided to rebuild the calpers during the rotor replacement and look what I found.

The PO had records of having the bearings replaced so I didn't plan to do them during the brake job.

Once I cleaned the bearing and hub I coiuldn't believe seeing the dented bearing. The race was scored as well. On top of it all the inner bearing wasn't replaced either and the inner race was not fully set.

So I'm in deep now with new inners, outers, races, rotors, hard lines, fluid flush and rebuilt calipers! Can't wait to finish it up and get it out as soon as the salt is gone.

What a shame that is, considering front wheel bearings are so cheap. At least the guy could have pryed the dent out a little bit!!!!

Understanding that bearings and races are precision-matched, a "better" hack job would have been to install the old bearing in the new race (if the old bearing was fairly good) or install a replacement new bearing while using the the race that was already installed. Sticking a bearing in there with a dent like that is just plain wrong.

Would a bearing get dented by a screwdriver like that do you think? It looks like a hammer was used to dent it up close.

And I agree KTL, for $9 from Autozone he could have just thrown a new one in.

I think this is pretty common. I have pulled two out of cars like that, one that was last replaced at the dealer!!

Cheers
