What to use to seal carburators ?
Hi there,
On my 70' 911 T , I removed the auxiliary fuel valves on the Zenith carbs. I ended up with 1 small open tube below each barrel. I plugged them up ( strong air intake there ) with some rubber plugs found at my local Kragen store. My trouble is these plugs keep breaking down ( from heat, fuel or whatever !!!) and I end up with these nasty air leaks until I get new plugs installed. Would someone know what I could use to seal these openings for good ? Thanks for the help. Thierry |

Thierry,
I have used metal-filled epoxy to fill holes in a couple of modified carburetors, and it has always worked extremely well, with no leaks at all! The only downside, or caveat, is that it should be considered a relatively permanent modifcation to the carb. And the area to be filled, needs to be extremely clean ... several applications of spray carburetor cleaner, followed by a couple of applications of spray brake cleaner to degrease the area, in order to allow the epoxy to adhere properly. Depending on the size of the hole, you may want to cut a circle of screen wire, or fiberglass screen, to provide structural strength while the epoxy cures. All of the metal-filled epoxy I have seen is of the 20-30 minute curing variety. Good luck! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
