upgrading 2.2L

I have a 70T w/2.2L motor. Are there any ways to make the car a little faster without breaking the bank. Any suggestions would help.

It ain't cheap, but you can bump the compression to 9.5:1 or so with new pistons. You can also do some porting work and put more aggressive cams in. This would essentially make it more like a carb'd E or S, stronger at the top end probably at the expense of the T's low end grunt.

A 'factory style' sport muffler will cut loose a more few ponies for < $300. Loud though.

Unfortunately in the long run the cheapest hp fix for the early cars is to sell it and buy something bigger...or, do a transplant like Jack Olsen's awesome black 73.
