Beru wires worth it?
Mine look original and it's time to change them out. I'd like to keep the stock wires but the cost is making me consider a lower-priced set of Bosch wires. What's the up/down side?
Regards,

I've had Magnecors in my '86 for 4 years with no complaints.

Can you reuse the Beru ends - are they in good condition? You can buy bulk wire (magnecor is great) and install the used ends.
That's what I will do next time. Doug

i just bought new berus because:
1. my mechanic recommended them 2. although magnecor have a pretty good rep and they said to bring the car in and they'd make them up on the spot, the magnecor shop is an over hour away. so i spent the extra cash instead of spending 3 hours of my time. The magnecors that i took off worked ok but they wouldnt last 25 years like the berus.

The ends are so-so, one boot was damaged by myself when I removed the dist cap. There is some cracking in the wire covers that are part of the assembly that bolts to the fan housing. I'm not familiar with how to make my own wires from bulk, I guess after 22 years it's probably time to replace the whole thing. Any thumbs up for Bosch wires? I've had good results with those in the past. The kit for the 911 is about half the price of Berus.
Thanks for the replies. Regards,

I have Jacobs wires on my '74 and my mechanic (Tab Tanner) recommended changing them over to the Beru shielded wires... I'll order them in the spring.

I'd find another mechanic if he recommends shielded wires since he hasn't been keeping up with the latest info.

Purchase the early Beru wire sets without the braiding. You get the OEM quality, fit and performance for much less $$$$$.

The non-braided Berus for my 85 Carrera are $340 - yikes!
Bosch makes an OEM-like replacement set I can get locally for $185. I guess I don't need the SS braided and I don't like the red silicon - too blingy. Will the other, cheaper 911 wire sets work? What's the difference, besides the way they are mounted to the fan housing? It's just ignition wire, how can it be so special?

As others have said, the braiding is no longer seen as necessary, unless you want to retain a stock look.
When I switched to an MSD CD box and coil, I went to their wires too. After 1 year, they seem to be doing fine.

I switched from 10 year old Beru to new Jacobs. I was not impressed with the Jacobs and after about a year switched to Magnecor. MUCH BETTER! I highly recommend the Magnecors.
