911 value has not changed last 15 years!
Roaming threw all the left over junk in the addict I came across several piles of old car magazines. Randomly flicking threw the ads I noticed to my surprise that the prices for SCīs and Carreras was the same in mags from 1992 as they are today!
Talk about brilliant second hand value !!! Not many cars can beat that. Is it the same in US ?

Hope prices continue to remain stable for while, or at least until I buy my replacement! |

First of all.... livi does a better jo with the English language than many of us 'Mericans here on this board. At times, it's embarassing.....or it may be simply the lack-of-care whether the written word is correct or not.
Second, and to the point. I bought my 85 Carrera in 1993 when the car was 8 years old. The price I paid is very close to what it's worth now, based on several sources of information. Yep...at least with how the cars were built ( and "valued" ) at that time....the car remained relatively flat on the depreciation curve once he intitial "hit" after 8 years or so...was taken. Not so with today's 986/996 and 987/997 models.... Wil

The cars have retained their prices well. Too bad the money hasn't retained its value. They are worth less.

Milt:
Of course you're correct...the actual purchase power has declined... But... Compare that to other cars that actually lose big-time in numerical value to boot !!! Even though I can probably afford to do so...it is economical suicide to consider buying new cars at $30-90K ...and watch both the numerical value AND purchasing power of the $ amount....tank faster than a lead sinker !!! Driving out of the dealer's lot on a new, $25k car will probaly cost you $8k within 5 minutes.... for a lot of cars! - Wil

Re: 911 value
I bought my 20 year old 911 for about what one would pay for a nice used Honda or Toyota. It looks like a rich man's car, and it drives like an exotic toy, but it's really just a reasonably priced and fun second vehicle. I'm happy that 911s have generally held their value, but it doesn't have much to do with the reasons I bought mine.

Cars are not an investment. They don't appreciate. The classic ones that sell for $100K probably have $100K put in them to look nice.
Real Estate is an investment (don't believe the media--the housing market will never crash--unless the population crashes first). Stocks, for the most part, are an investment. They also appreciate over time--some require more patience than others. The old 911s have pretty much plateaued in value--the price is now determined more by condition. I believe the 80s cars are a bit pricier than the 70s cars--but that could be due to the magnesium engine and lack of rustproofing in the 70s.
