RSR Clone Vs Carrera Cup which to sell
 

I have come to the realization that I don't want to be financialy responsible for keeping three Porsche hot rod/race cars going all at the same time. So here is the situation-
In corner # 1 a 1973 RSR clone built on a 1970 911 S chassis, 3.5 L twin Plug RSR motor all new, new tranny, coil over suspension 930 brakes, new paint and interior. Fantastic car.
In corner #2 1992 Carrera Cup one of 45, 10K miles, race trim, fresh motor and tranny. Who should get voted off the island?

The Carrera's value is inflated because of its rarity, right? In my book, that creates two good reason to sell it. One is that you'll get a good price for it. It's one of 45, and no number of expensive clones will ever change that statistic to 1 of 46. The second reason follows the first: it would be a bigger tragedy to lose it at the track.

They're both great cars. But the RSR is an 'is what it is, because of what you put into it' car, which means its value is more directly tied to its actual virtues. Collectibles (like the Carrera) are a different story.

Which one brings you more pleasure? The 'early RSR clone has got to be damn fun but the factory "hot rod" is pretty special too.

I am 964 biased, but the Cup car is a real factory race car while the other is a clone. A REALLY nice clone, but still..

I believe the cup car will be a better car in all respects- driving, investment, cool factor, etc. Just my 2 cents.

I think you could sell the cup pretty easily and get a great price. They seem to be a hot seller right now.

But, that would be the one I would keep. Clones are everywhere. You have a piece of history in the cup.

Having said that, let me know if you want to sell the cup ;)

Sell the RSR, the cup car uses all factory original stuff and is a better car anyway. (technically)

Well I should also say neither of them are technically my race car. I have a 74 IROC clone I race. What ever car is left will be relegated to DE street hot rod duty.

The silver car has been lowered and corner balanced, I'll look and see if I have any new pics. I also have a correct set of frosted wheels for it as well.

I love longhoods but I'd keep the Cup... Especially if you have that old school race car (a 2.8L??).

If it where my decision I would sell the RSR. The cup is an original peice of history and will continue to increase in value. The rsr is a clone and it's value will diminsh over the long run.. And I love your rsr.

Here is one at correct height, windshield out for new dash, have some way cool houndstooth ST seats to go in it as well.

Nice island ! Lots of RSR clones out there...very few Cup's. My vote goes to the Cup.

The white one used to be a 2.8 we just got done doing a 3.3 SS for it. It is also a 1973 S that I have a matching number block for. My long term intent is to find another chassis to put race car parts on and put it back togther as a street car. Will the madness ever stop?

If you are just driving it on the street and I assume limited driving miles Keep the cup - just park it away from everybody.

Longhood RSR's are everywhere - real cup cars are much more exclusive and much more likely to increase in value.

How much for the RSR? ;)
