Im Back - Many posts to come

I apologize for my absence from the forum for the past few months...first semester senior year was a little crazier than expected. I promise to make up for this with a plethora of posts in the upcoming weeks.

To update you all, after finding a broken headstud during a valve adjustment this summer, my car has been sitting at home in CT. But here is the good news...I will be rebuilding my engine in the engine lab on campus...for credit.

To do that, the car has to make a 500 mile trip from CT to Pittsburgh. With the unpredictable northeast weather, i dont trust my old tires. I have included a screenshot of the 4 tires i am considering...do you guys have an suggestions?

And, of course, I promise to document this whole process over the next few months.

Of the choices I'd go with the Yoko's, though I think Dunlop makes a better snow tire.

Where at in de'Burgh are you attending? I left Pittsburgh when I went to college and unfortunately haven't been back (except for a week or so every other year) since I was commissioned in the Navy. I miss it a lot.

Are you currently in PIttsburgh? If so, I have a set of 15 inch steel wheels with all season tires that you can certainly borrow for the trip. Just shout if that helps you out.

Oh, they are 185's that I specifically put on those rims for such trips in crappy weather. I drove my 912 all the way to California on them about 3 years ago and they performed with aplomb. Not too noisy, decent in light snow, good for mileage, etc.

i have blizzaks on my '79 sc targa. while they are fantastic on ice and snow they are no fun on clean and dry roads. feels like driving on art gum erasers. i can hardly wait 'til spring to get them off of my car.
by the way, i just found out that i too have a broken head stud on my '78 coupe. if you get a passing grade on your rebuild project perhaps you may want to do another for extra credit ? just asking.

I have a set of barely-used, but 4 1/2 year old, Blizzaks that you can have for the cost of shipping if they will fit your car. I used them on my 78 in winters of 2002 and 2003, but now use the car for DE so it is usually disassembled during the winter.

I was going to put the tires in the classifieds but have been too busy to put up pictures and such.

They are 205/55/16 (front) and 225/50/16 (rear), they fit the 6 & 7 x 16 wheels on my 78.

I want them gone and they are in good shape. Let me know.

And good luck with the rebuild! Did that years ago too, didn't get any credit but probably learned more than I did during senior year...

Good luck
Scott

Hey scott, i really appreciate it...i cant thank you enough for the offer. My father actually helped me ship it out here, making my life a whole lot easier. So where exactly are you in Pittsburgh? If you are ever around CMU, shoot me a message and i will show you around the lab.

I am dropping the engine tomorrow, and i think im about ready. I was searching around tonight and i cant seem to find an exhaustive list of everything to disconnect. Where could i find that?

The list is at the top of the page. Click on the tab "Technical Info Center" and it is on the first page under "911 engine Drop Made Easy". Good luck...
