Anyone with GT Racing fenders that can chime in with how they dealt with the fender to body mount. The area behind the wheel/closer to the door. Thanks.

I also got a Ultimate Strut for Front Hood from here (Pelican Parts)

and some hood pins from GT Racing. Planning on installing those tonight.

Wow... my hat off to you. You are a brave man!
The car is starting to look really nice.
Did you decide anything on the wheels?

If I can find street tires for 14"x17" wheels then I will go with these:

If not I will go with Lindsey P2 (Fuch styled) and install spacers...:

Lousy photo manipulation I know, but you get the idea...

And no, not planning on painting the car orange.. I will keep it in the original color :)

Just a few photos on the progress so far (this was all done last night)...

Driver's fender fitted, started with the work on fitting the bumper. Got the urge to see how the wing looked installed and although I have not finished the outside of it and put it on just for kicks (the reason you see it lower into the body is because I removed the rubber stops. Should align flush with the rest of the car with the rubber stops in place.

Right now I am just focused on getting all the mounting holes drilled, fitting the parts, making sure the gaps are correct, etc. One I get all that done then I can work on the filler, primer, etc.

Here are the photos, enjoy. I have another thread asking for some suggestions with the body work.

I drove the car out to clean all the dirt that fell from the fender wells... and from removing the 17 miles of A/C hoses that that thing had... wow! I will take some time during the weekend to remove the fenders again and pressure wash everything... hate it when all that crap falls on the floor...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172266932.jpg

That is all for now. Will get some additional work done today. Concentrating on finishing fitting the bumper.

wachuko 02-23-2007 05:59 PM

Well... bumper is in place. Here are the photos. It will still need some work (that phrase is becoming a constant one, LOL )

I still need to drill the holes from the fender to the bumper. Currently have a C clamp holding it in place...

What rubber trim is used between the fender and the bumper???

Here are the photos:

That's looks pretty good, please keep the pics coming.

After playing some more with the position of the brackets and adding some flat washers to shift the bumper 1/2" to the passenger side... voila! Bumper fits better...

C clamps replaced with 1/4" stainless steel bolts and washers:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172372546.jpg

Made the brackets for the back of the fender... will glass over it an create an extension to the fender in that area to fill the gap that is there.

wachuko 02-24-2007 06:21 PM

This thing is starting to look like a car again:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172373204.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172373228.jpg

Working now on fitting the headlights... I was told and also read not to trust fiber glass for holding the headlights so I will make some brackets for the top and another one for the bottom to hold them in place.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172373420.jpg

Also, all the border around the headlight bucket needs to be removed for the lights to fit... seems the FG is too thick and does not allow for the headlight to fit correctly. I tried to leave some level of border to at least help keep it in place while I insert the bottom bolt...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172373543.jpg

All this lip goes away...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172373642.jpg

Here you can see why the lip needs to be removed... look at the bottom of the headlight:

wachuko 02-24-2007 06:42 PM

Now with the border almost removed...

Looking much better now:

Awesome work and step-by-step progress photos. Thanks for all the behind the bumper connection shots - I've always wondered exactly how glass bumpers are attached. That's an ambitious project you've got going!

Tom

cool project. subscribing.

I had the same "Door Gap" problem with my GT Racing front fenders 5 years ago when I built my car. No real easy way to fix it besides ordering better quality fenders from Getty or Ma Shaw. They only good parts that Hank makes are bumpers.
Here is the picture of the fenders when I was putting them on.... He really needs to adjust his mold.

Now you tell me!! :p When I started looking the three companies came recommended.... I sent an email to Getty for a list and a quote... got a reply that they will work on it but never got the email or callback... placed a call with GT-Racing, left message and got a call back from Hank... placed the order right then..

Should I then go with Getty for the rear parts?? Probably a null point as the front seems to be the one with the most work...

Thanks for moving along on your project at a good pace, it will motivate me. by the way, I have that power window wiring issue in my other car, How did you solve it, what wire goes where. My pass window switch is out coz it wass not working right.
Thanks
Nathan
