Leak from engine oil cooler despite new seals... what else to check?

I was hoping for a leak free engine, but it seems I've got a leak at the engine oil cooler. It was pretty gunked up when I had it apart so I cleaned it up and put in new seals. The top of the engine was bone dry.

Is there anything else that would be leaking in that neighborhood? I'll wait until my next oil change to investigate further, but I'm wondering if I shouldn't be tracking down a replacement cooler between now and then. The oil seems to be coming out where the cooler and the case meet.

cooler leaks are usually fairly active, not just minor seepage. the two 10mm case studs under the cooler could be seeping around their o-rings. also there's a steel tube that's cast into the case and there are two slots that expose a bit of it. one under the cooler and one outside under #6 cylinder. oil can seep from the slots, so they need to be epoxied as a matter of course.

"Is there anything else that would be leaking in that neighborhood?"

Could be a leak in the oil cooler itself. Is it dry on the outside? If suspect, perhaps a cooperative radiator shop can rig up a pressure test to verify.

Thanks... I bet that's it. Sure would have been easier to reach when it was on the stand a week ago. I've read varying opinions whether or not a partial engine drop is required to remove the cooler.

Oh well... something to do on the next oil change.

I have removed mine without a partial engine drop. I had to loosen some engine tin to get it outta there, but I did it and replaced without the drop. I thought my oil cooler was the culprit of my leaks too.... but mine turned out to be rocker sleevs were loose allowing oil to escape in the vicinity of the oil cooler. I swore up and down it was the cooler... but not. I tightened the sleeves up and it all dried up. Look for the 'Wet Engine' thread.. rather long with many pictures of my car.
