SC spark plug air seals - help

Does anyone know how to get new air seals over the plug wires? I've seen pictures of disassembled connectors, but my wires (which I assume are stock) do not look like they come apart at the connectors.

Thanks,

Olivier

Olivier,

I have been told that the SC connectors unscrew from the wires as well. That would seem to be the 'logical' way to assemble them!

I just got through doing my 78SC today, after reading all the threads on using non-braided wires on CIS, and Warren's suggestion of building your own from bulk wire, and from being tired of getting shocked every time I picked up a wire, and after discovering my grommets were gone. The air seal grommets were difficult to get on. I used ones from a local VW shop because they were 15 cents and porsche wanted $1.60 each. Ouch!! I had to pull then over the end that attaches to the plug. They fit, just takes a little finessing. The process will also provide the guys with a better visual understanding of the child birth process. It took about a minute or two, opf three per wire. But it worked.

And the best part - new plug wires for a total of about $18.00. (18 feet wire and 6 new grommets) Beats $250.00. I trusted you guys in the past threads on being able to use the non-braided. It runs great but I'll keep you posted if there are any adverse effects. And if there are I'll hunt each and every one of you down until I . . . . . (Oh did I say that out loud?)

A litle help on getting those air seals on. First remove the rubber seal on the bottom of the connector (the end that attaches to the plug). This may take a little bit of effort but they will come off. Once off the connector shaft is much narrower and you don't have to stretch the air seal as much. Also rub a little dish soap on both the connector and the hole in the air seal. they should slide right into place without a problem. The dish soap also makes getting the rubber seal back on a lot easier.

I had no trouble - they slid right on. It's what I like to call a 'honeymoon fit.' But the air seals are getting harder to find. the Porsche dealer here says P no longer sells them separately.
