Why not a turbo?

Staring down the slant nose of an auto body estimate, I was wondering why not pay a few extra bucks (joke, joke) and actually get the slant nose fenders and have the rears flared? But, if it looks fast, it better be fast. In ten words or less, why can one not turbo charge an SC 3.0? I understand compression ratios, but beyond that???

You can bolt a turbo right on . . in addition to the exhaust, fuel pump, intercooler, etc. All its takes in $$$. If you have a pre 79SC(?) the compression ratio is about 8.5 to 1 so you can run about .5 boost. Good for a couple of horsepower anyways. To get the boost worth the turbo, however, I'd go with a turbo motor. I was looking into a turbo for my 78SC. However, I think its more practice to just get a turbo motor and trans. Probably about 7-8K. I wouldn't buy the turbo model, however, unless you want the added P tax of the factory turbo replacement parts. The SC conversation with upgrades and a turbo motor is my prefered model. It's always nice to have a sleeper.

I have an SC that I am currently installing a turbo engine in. I thought about just t/b mine, but once you add up all the extras, like the turbo, exhaust, not to mention, cams, to drive scavenge pump, oil tank, etc,. (it goes WAY on). It was simply much cheaper to sell mine, and get a factory turbo engine. Plus you could never run near as much boost with the stock pistons and fuel systems. Of course, I opted for a C2T engine, which will take alot of work to fit it into my body anyway!

You can definately turbocharge your SC. However, It would be a lot more cost effective (and a lot less time consuming) to simply sell your 911, and look for a good deal on a turbo. Not to mention, even if you went with the turbo engine, tranny, flares, and fenders, you still wouldn't have turbo suspension, wheels, or brakes!

Ah, my favorite subject.

Can you turbocharge an SC in ten words or less. The problem in one word: CIS

As stated above you can do anything if you throw enough money at it. Obviously CIS is not a problem for the 3.3T, but they have low compression. The Carrera 3.2 engine's fuel injection is more tunable when boosted.

My thinking is similar to PBS, put a 3.3T in a light wieght SC that is cheaper to insure.
You will modify the suspension anyway if you're a hotrodder. You also already have the 915 box. I have talked to a few 930 owners who swapped out the 4spd for the 915. They claimed it fealt like 100 extra hp!

As far as widebodies go, Porsche made a few factory normally aspirated widebodies in the late 80's. The motors were stock 3.2 Carrera. Guess you don't have to be a supercar to look like one.
