Need pic of Valet and Main key

I have all the locks out of my car for re-key. I took them to the local locksmith and explained how the valet key works only the ignition and doors and there seems to be a problem.

He thinks the valet key should not even insert in the glove box and hood release but my recolection is that they will insert but not work. Is that right?

Can someone post a close up of both keys side by side so I can show this guy how they are cut. I don't have a cut valet. Only a new blank

don't have pic handy, but you are correct that both will insert into tumbler, but valet will not unlock hood or glove box.

The valet key has an extra long scallop cut/groove, or it is on opposite face from master key? 'Cut' pattern is identical, for sure, i.e., you can make a new master key from a spare valet key [or vice-versa] if it comes to the worst-case scenario!

I don't understand how it works. Both keys fit in the locks and they are cut the same but operate differently. I don't know how that extra cut in the valet key changes the operation.

I may just worry about the main key and blow off the valet

My car only came with the red key which I was told is the master?? I bought a black key blank and went to a locksmith to get it cut. I was also told that the valet key would not open the glovebox or the hood release.

The result.....well both keys operate all functions. I don't plan on letting a valet park the 930 anyway but I did want it factory correct. Oh well.

Red should be valet. Black is master.

I thought I would follow up with this so others will know. Found on the 914 board is how the valet key works. One wafer and a valet key together is how it works. See the picture and it will make sense....

I believe that the black (master) and red (valet) keys have the same cuts. The only difference as shown in your photo is the grooves. If you have one or the other key, I think all you need is the opposite color, in your case a black master key blank and then have a good locksmith cut your key from your red key and it should open your glovebox and hood lock (I assume you have a targa?).

If not, all you need to do is take your title and have your VIN and a locksmith can make new keys. Dealers can do this too, but are more expensive.
