Interesting under dash A/C unit...

I came across this posting on ebay,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1979-Porsche-911SC-Targa-55K-Miles-Like-New_W0QQitemZ160085719254QQihZ006QQcategoryZ10156Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

check the under dash A/C. Does anyone have information on this? looks pretty clean IMHO.

It looks like the VPC (Volkswagen Products Corporation) unit that was common as a dealer add-on back in the 70s.

It's a Kcool (may have evolved from the VPC) "dealer add-on" unit - I have one in my '76 911. Works well - better air flow than the SC and Carrera factory dash ducting.

Not sure that I see an A/C unit, I see an equalizer unit for the stereo but the pictures on my screen are very dark. If this what you see it reminds me of a under dash auxilary vent sold by Griffiths that is pretty neat. It ties into the bowtie under the dash and gives more and directable air flow. Here is a link:

Had a unit like that on my old '76 911S - it actually works well and flows more air than my SC. Only negative is those units reduce the legroom and if you have long legs your knees can bump regularly.

"Not sure that I see an A/C unit,"

Above the equalizer, see the two round A/C control knobs.

I was wondering about the vents under the dash pad...might be a good way to add some cooling since the stock vents are not really large enough.
