Original color repaint or something else?
Project "I should have jumped it off a bridge while I had the chance" is starting to take shape. Just picked up a 70 2.2s from a very reputable seller in BC Vancouver and am preparing to pull the non-original 69T out of my 67 sunroof. Car is going to paint in a month or so. The shop is shooting Glasruit and is known for their excellent (that means expensive right?) work.
The car is mosly original aside from the engine and a few odds and ends. Should I go with the original color (black) or do something cool? I'm completely split- I'd like to have it original but at the same time, I live in Florida and don't have AC (= hot!). Car is currently white but was painted by 2 blind men with a roller. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks! ![]() Last edited by dogslovetrucks; 02-24-2007 at 04:35 PM.. |

With a color change consider the amount of extra work (and $$) to do it right.

hmm...the thing about black is that if it is done right, then no other color looks better. If done poorly, then nothing looks worse.
If you go with black, then you gotta go all in. On the other hand, we have 115F days here and I would not be caught dead in a black car in the daytime. I take that back.....someday I just might. |

Paint it any color you like. I prefer the many of funky early car colors. Black and silver are common early car colors, like Guards Red is a common impact bumper car color. Look over the colors available during the early years and find one that speaks to you. Good luck and post pics of your SWB car when it's done. ![]()

Black will always be the new Black, but paint it whatever color you want.

On the other hand, my impact bumper car is Sahara Beige and I have had it parked next to an early Champagne Yellow car as Tony the Tiger commented on and I could only barely discern a difference. I secretly think they're the samecolor renamed. An Early car guy could comment. Sahara Beige photographs poorly (probably Champagne too?) but I get compliments on it all the time:

I put a 2003 Silverado "dark gray metallic" on my 79SC. It is a color that went on very well and I didn't have to go overboard on repainting the "just inside" parts. The color get compliments all the time. Did it two years ago. Check the color out in the sunlight. It sparkles, yet is subtle and enhances the lines
