Jammed front lid (trunk)
I just got my 72' 911 back from the paint shop. I had the front and rear lids off the car as well as the fenders so the painter could get in all the tight places...he did a great job. I re-attached the front trunk lid today and must not have had it lined up well...it is jammed and the cable will not release it. In looking in the front (weather stripping isnot yet installed), it apprears the dovetail / spring catch is off center toward the left a bit.
Any help will be appreciated. |

I'm not sure I can help, but a couple of general suggestions: Have a helper run the release handle while you push, pull and twist on the hood. If you can see the latch mechanism you should be able to find a thin but sturdy tool to poke in there and free the latch.

If I remember right, from my old one, the hood latch is supposed to partly release if the cable breaks. So...if you unscrew the knob and push the cable into the tube it should allow the spring on the post to pop up the bonnet. However, if the hood is somehow wedged, you're stuck with the original problem and a lost cable. good luck.

I am not sure on an SC, but for a pre-74: NO!
The engine lid opens automatically when the cable brakes. The front trunk gets CLOSED forever! If you unscrew the knob, you are lost! You then have to unscrew the front bumper, drill a hole in the chassis (see Haynes manual for location) and unlock manually with a hook or screwdriver. Try to twist the hood first to open it. You might also be able to insert a bended screwdriver or something to release the spring and to free the pin, as your wheather stripping is still out. Take your time-it's worth it!
