I'm leaning towards building a SWB 911R clone
In between projects and thinking of building a clone of a 911R. I just finished a 71 vintage 2.2 racer with full cage that weighs in at 1850 lbs....so lightening a car is not a problem. I want a driver, not a track car.There are lots of RS and RSR clones that look great....but haven't seen too many ...in fact none....SWB narrow bodied R clones. Anybody have any inspirational pics of their creations?
If I don't build up the 2.0 motor, I might end up putting a 2.7-3.0 with webers and a sport exhaust. Lets see whatcha got!

That sounds good to me. I have a sort of 911R clone. Its a side moulding deleted 912 with polished fuchs and a 2.0 bored to 2.2. Its just what works as a driver and all the powerful fun I need. More fun than my 997.

The R is interesting b/c the factory went to a lot more wt. saving measures on it than on later light wt. 911 based racers.

The R was SWB and I think it also had a tiny bit of fender flare to fit 6" & 7" Fuchs, though the 7" rears had lots of offset (to the inside of the car) to fit without really substantial flares.
Most of the motors were twin plug 2.0L with 210hp from carbs, but a few had MFI and 220hp (similar motor as on 906). Weight was well under 1,900 lbs.

Here are a few pictures of a 1968 TR that was at Moorespeed a few weeks ago. This car is 1 of 3 prototypes with a 906.

I'm on the right path...
Thanks for the pics and the specs....
I have most of what I need already in terms of additional parts...suspension, wheels, motor stuff, oil coolers etc. I'll need to create some windows and hinges and try to find or convert to a center fill tank. I need to find the donor first. While I have a couple leads, they are not ideal, and I want to use a 911 not a 912 as the basis. It appears that most of the original Rs were white? And the fender flares were "metal worked", not seam welded? And I would guess that a set of sport seats would be in order....nah, maybe some period correct early recaros will surface.

SWB 911R
Thanks for the pms guys, I really am only looking for 911 vins. If I create what I plan to... I don't want it to have a 912 vin. I don't want to get into a political debate, but I believe a 912 vin is always a 912 vin...same for a 911. I'm not a fan of replacing or reusing or converting vins...regardless. We'll let God decide if that is cool....or the Department of Motor Vehicles...which ever gets there first.
