advice with intermittant dying issue
I'm at a loss with a current issue I'm experiencing. It's happened to me twice this week.
Driving along, and BAM....idle goes from 880 to 1200-1400 RPM and runs roughly for about 5 seconds, then quickly dies when you tap the throttle. Will not immediately re-start, unless given 30-60 seconds. Upon attempting to re-start, engine will turn over briskly but takes some time to start. I'm sure it's a spark issue, because I can smell fuel and even flooded it once (raw fuel in tailpipe). I haven't started running tests on the sensors, because both crank sensors are only 1 year old. The CHT was replaced about 30,000 miles ago. It seems to me like something electronic is on its last leg and is trying to tell me so. Opinions and suggestions are welcomed.

how old is your DME relay? there's a date stamped on it. under the driver seat, next to the computer. DME relays and crank sensors are the two most likely culprits, followed by an old fuel pump.

Put your hand on the DME relay when it dies, turn ignition to on. If it doesn't click...there ya go.

I forgot to mention, DME relays have been switched and there is no change. One is date stamped 2007 and the other, which I purchased over three years ago as a spare, is dated 2008. Fuel pump has about 25,000 miles on it but is clearly working.

Ok,
It sounds like the same thing that happened to mine. Had to get a MSD ignition. Sounds scarry but it is not. Test your ignition. If it is the problem.......MSD ignition for 930...? Or others that are for the 911 |

OK guys, I think I found the problem today.
On the way home, engine started to do its thing again....revs rose to 1200-1400 rpms and idled roughly. This time, I didn't blip the throttle, and the engine stayed alive while I carefully rolled in to a side street for further inspection. Opened the engine lid and pulled the CHT sensor connector, and jumped the connector with a paper clip....idle dropped and smoothed out immediately. Just finished ordering up the sensor. I'm pretty sure I will be officially closing this thread. Thanks to all those who offered up their advice, I always appreciate everybody's input here.
