Jacking up my prize
If I plan to change the gear oil what is the best way. Do I need to jack it up.......
Also if not in the future where is the best place to put jack stands. Please take a second to help. As I do not want to thrash anything. Thank you Its a 1987 911 [This message has been edited by strep (edited 12-25-2000).] |

First make sure you have a jack pad to slip into the jack point of the car. These are available from pelican for like $15. Second for the placement of the stands, refer to the tech articles on this website. They have tons of usefull information, and will tell you the best places to put your stands.
Hope this helps and Merry Christmas, Makaio 78 911 SC |

the tranny will not drain properly or fill properly unless it's level. Doing these without jacking the car is possible, but probably easier if you do a little jacking-lowering-jacking-lowering. Ideally the oil is warm when you drain it, and I do suggest a long drive before draining.
The factory points to a spot on my engine case, just behind the oil screen plate, where you can lift the rear of the car with a floor jack. I put jackstands under the big outboard torsion bar covers sticking into the wheel well just forward of the rear wheels. Warren places the jackstands on the inboard torsion covers. ------------------ '83 SC |

I drive the front wheels up on ramps, then jack the back up. I put jack stands under the torsion bar tubes by each rear wheel. I find a level point on the car before raising it, and then jack it up to match.
If this is going to hurt the car, somebody let me know. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe |

Not at all, Jack. Go Jack, Go.
Sounds like you place a floor jack where I do. I've never had much luck with ramps. They slide on the garage floor and they often don't clear bumpers and body panels. Wish they worked better. ------------------ '83 SC |
