I'm also interested in this, but haven't found it.
One alternative is the wheel-well based condensors that came when the 964s got the retractable spoiler. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe |

You can get the condenser from Performance Aire in Anaheim, Ca. Their ph # is 714.634.9184. You will speak to Diana, a very knowledeable person. I installed one on my '75 911 a couple of years ago. The unit is about 1 inch thick, about 4 ft wide and mounts under the car about where the fronts seats are. If I remember it was about $400. If you can get the car high enough it is a DIYer to mount it. $1000 seems high to me to have it installed. Hope this helps.

VW/DPD used to put a couple of smaller, 1.5-2 square foot condensers and fans beside the forward part of the transaxle on Beetles, and they worked quite well!

Thanks!
Does something that big -- with that many fins -- produce any noticable drag? I don't think it's an issue for me, but I know Juan likes to spend time in the triple-digit zones. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe |

You've got to remember that the condensor that is shown is a static condensor which means the only time air is circulated around it is when the car is moving. It is not to be used as an alternative to the one located in the rear engine compartment, but as an addition to.

For those of you wha are more familiar with all of this AC stuff, here's my plan. My 73 came with a decklid condenser, and a second one mounded up under the front spoiler. Since I've switched the rear decklid, my thoughts for the coming summer have been to install a rear driver's side wheel-well condenser with a fan, in addition to the old front one, as well as the static one under the car. Is this overkill? With a black-on-black car in Los Angeles, I'd like to have air conditioning that is meaningful.

SWEET!!!
I was looking for the bulkhead vent for sometime. I originally found it for $85.00. They have it for $54.00! Woohoo! (still kinda expensive for some plastic thought). Thank you again! Nick H. '85 Carrera |
