Odd color combo on 67?
...The continuing saga of project "Jump it off a bridge before it's too late"...
Ordering interior parts and getting ready to pull her all the way down to bare metal. The original "looking" headliner is off white, original "looking" remainder of the interior is black. The numbers say the original paint color is black. Is this an odd color combo (black ext, partial black interior w/white headliner?)- Do any of the numbers on the car indiate what the interior color options were (other than paint)? Thanks! JC |

JC,
That is original. Black headliners were never available on a SWB coupe (or a long-hood for that matter). There are two obviously different white (well, off-white) coupe headliners. There is the one you have and there is the ’68 911S & 911L that has an “elephant hide” texture. Of course the inside of the Targa top was black. Best, Grady

Hey Grady,
Wasn't a black headliner available for the first time during the production run of the 1973 RS? JR |

JR,
I suppose so. I don’t recall seeing one among the few dozens I have seen. That should be easy to research in the published books. Best, Grady

I gotta say if i was doing a swb from bare metal i'd be mighty tempted to go slate grey exterior w/ red innards.
What is the plan for your car? Any pics to share?

Pics to come once things get rolling. Was kicking around some period correct colors but decided I want to go as orig as possible, otherwise the grey/red sounds awesome. She's going back to black. She's currently white- painted by a tribe of blind elves...whilst high on meth.

Yes, I do think that "6609" Schwartz is a somewhat rare color for an SWB. The more common colors are Polo Red and Light Ivory just judging by the cars one commonly sees.
You are smart to go back to original. Mine's black now, going back to original Irish Green. . . but here's a pic before it goes. . . ![]()

Eric,
Looking in my paper ’72-’73 parts manual (that includes the Carrera 2.7) I see “Dome lining, compl.. for cars without sliding roof.” (911.555.055.00) and “Dome lining, compl.. for cars with sliding roof” (911.555.056.10). No mention of color in my book dated 9/72 and includes ’73.5 911T CIS. I haven’t checked PET. Many interior parts have the color indication as an addition to the part number. In the manual description it includes the notation “(state color)” rather than a separate part number for the different colors. The headliners don't have that notation in this manual. Best, Grady

My 72/73 paper parts manual: Most pages dated 9/72, Insert dated 2/74. Part number 911.555.501.10 Description: Roof lining, black, compl., for cars without sliding roof. It's marked SW (for optional) in the Carrera 2.7 column. regards, Eric
