Question How did you split your case??

I searched the threads, and could not find any info on this subject.

I'm trying to get my case appart; however, the 28 years of being sealed is winning the battle.

anyone come up with a safe technique they would like to share?

Rubber mallet and a carefully placed block of wood. My guess is that you have missed a bolt or two. There are a bunch relaly well hidden inside the case. Whatever you do don't try and pry it open. Also, there's a goo dspot inside the breather cover to push it.

When I split the case on my engine it was also quite difficult. I searched a number of times for the "lost" bolt or nut, none were found. I finally made some wood wedges and used a dead blow mallet. When the seam finally let loose I heard a loud crack. I was sure I broke something. The noise was simply the 25 year old case sealer finally breaking loose. I have spit many a case and never did I get such a loud "report" from a seam coming loose. My reply, and no one was aroud to hear it was "wow, cool."

I finally figured out what the issue was. I had all the bolts, but I was just going to easy on it. I finally took a wood handle hammer on the areas pointed out in wayne's book, and hit the top of the hammer with my dead blow mallet. after 5-10 blows I heard the crack and she came loose.
