Acceleration Enrichment Control Unit

I think im having a problem with my Acceleration Enrichment Control Unit. Its the medium sized box under the passenger seat on 81-82 sc. I cant find a replacement on the web but im going to call around tomorrow to try and find one. Would the failure of this unit cause fluctuating idle and gassy exhaust? The reason i think its bad is because if i play with the conection it will run normal if im holding it and fluctuate if im not. i cleaned all the connections really good and it does the same thing so im thinking the connection is bad inside. it looks pretty rusty looking in thrrough the bolt hole. So does it sound like im on the right track?
