a/c question

hi.. i have a question i have a 1979 porsche 911 coupe and im having problems with my a/c blower motor that stop working yesterday. it was smoke comming from the vents but what gets me is i replace the motor last summer and only used it a few times. what do you guys think could be frying it out thanks for the help.

Smoke is likely condensation (unless you smell burning- in which case you should get out some marshmallows). Are you sure it's the blower motor and not the compressor? I'd guess your Freon is low which is keeping the compressor from fully engaging. You can recharge but that doesn't fix what caused the Freon from running away in the first place. Unless you are real handy, recommend taking into shop- may places do free A/C system checks in the Spring. Even if you don't have them do the work, at least you've narrowed down the problem

In either event you need to open it back up and see what you have; I've seldom seen a new OE motor fry on its own, many times it is something that stalled the motor such as a fan contacting the case assembly...... open it up and let us know what you find.

If you had somebody else replace the blower motor then read this thread before you dive in there
