Nose Bearing Dimensions
So since I couldn't stop the leak around my nose bearing/crank spot I decided to split the case. To the naked eye it looks like the bearing is undersized or the hole is oversized. The red o-ring barely makes contact with the case surface.
My measurement show the bearing at 62mm and the opening at 65mm. Anyone know the spec dimension for either? John

I'm guessing someone used the wrong one. I've got two nose bearings here, the 3.6 is 65mm, the 2.7 is 62mm.
BTW, thanks for careful packaging of the roll bar, looks and fits just great

Thanks. I've got a new one on order and it looks like the 3.0 through 3.6 is the same. Hoping you are right.

The one I took out of my 3.2 is 65mm.

Well, the new bearing arrived and fit like a glove. Unbelievable something like that could be done. I guess next time I buy a freshly rebuilt longblock I'll be a little more careful. $200 worth of sealant and gaskets, $100 bearing and about 30 hours to dissassemble. Hopeing she'll be purring like a kitten, or roaring like a lion, by Sunday.

John,
The issue you now face is did the 62 mm early #8 main bearing allow adequate supply of oil to the rod bearings for #1,4,2,5 cylinders? I think much passed between the #8 bearing and the case. This may have even lowered the oil to #3 and 6 rods supplied from the #1 main. Doesn’t the oil for the #1-2-3 cams pass through #8 supply? Please look at the big picture. Best, Grady

I agree, but the motor only ran about 10-12 minutes total and the bearings look fine.

John,
Good that no damage was done. I was concerned that the issue hadn’t been brought up and the engine reassembled with potential downstream problems. Good for you. An important feature of any analysis of even a seemingly insignificant issue is to look at every potential effect of every little bit. Nothing should escape consideration. Best, Grady
