After engine warm-ups running for1hour
Hi, sry for these questions on valves but the valve adjustment job i did turned out good .I went down to my local Porsche shop and the mech. said sounded good. I did the backside method i told him and he was like (What)???. After driving the car hard on highway and drove 1hour i notice the passager side gets nosiey and louder like tick-a-tick when i pulled into the driveway. Its not extremely loud but loud enough when a u stick your head in the engine compartment and listen for the valves or maybe pistons u hear the right side quite a bit.Or when at a stop light the sound bounces of car on my left with window down. I let the car sit for couple hours then start it up and the sound is gone with barely any ticking at all .Is it just the way the eng. works and the year of car 1980SC 3.0 its normal to do that? Or do i hve to go back and should re ajust the right side again.
engine been rebuilt 130,000km on it. Last edited by Eomak; 03-28-2007 at 05:50 PM.. |

Same thing happening to me after performing an adjustment just recently. The car sounds like a sewing machine except for this one "tick". Cold, the noise is very faint; Warm, the tick is noticeable to me at the rear with deck lid open.
I ended up pulling the valve covers off and re-checked the clearances. They all appear to be ok. My guess is a 1).worn valve guide, 2).rocker arm 3). injector. Maybe someone else will chime in.
