Anyone have a whale tail they want to sell?
I've been mulling this over since I bought my 911 a couple years ago. It has a modern tail on it and I just don't know how I like it. I've been on the fence since the beginning. Some days it looks really cool and on others I want to put the original whale tail back.
I guess first off I'd like to know what people think about my current tail and then if anyone has one they want to get rid of...(sell) Thanks! ![]() ![]() ![]()

I think your current tail looks pretty good, it's agressive, but with the front valience that you are using, it goes pretty well.
-if you opt to change, I'd go for a carerra style tail in full fiberglass, which you would be able to paint all white. The turbo tails with the rubber edges to my eyes won't go as well with your more modern car. -Adam |

I disagree....the black of the Turbo or Carrera tail will balance with the black trim on the front bumper as well as the rest of the black trim on the car....I think it is a wise choice....although your car does look good the way it is...i just prefer a turbo tail.....or even a ducktail....I would also go back to Fuchs wheels also....but that is just another one of my preferences....

Stormaster said what I was typing before I finished. The black will defintely help balance the car, because right now, honestly, it looks funny to me with all white back there.

I am thinking about the turbo tail. I love the beafy black rubber look. I just don't know. Everytime I see someone else's tail on these boards I always think that they look better than the one on my car. Please keep your thoughts coming...
I do appreciate it.

IMHO, the Turbo/teatray really needs to be on a widebody, true turbo car or it looks a little chunky. The Carrera tail looks better on a narrow body Carrera...IMO.
BTW, I thnk your car looks pretty good as is but personally really like the Carrera tail look on a coupe which is why I sold my tailless '87 cab to get my coupe. Does your car have the double shocks to hold up the tail? You may want to get that if you add a turbo/carrera tail since they are relatively heavy. Not sure how heavy the tail you have on there now is.

Great-looking P-Car. I've never been a fan of the "modern" tails. I think your car would look great with a Turbo-Tail!

i also have a mint condition turbo tail for sale.
i am presently in mid-deal with someone else, but if you interested pm me and i can let you know if it falls through. -i like both of you spoilers, and i favour the turbo tail on the non-turboed body cars....its neat when the wing is almost as wide as the car....seems like how it should be...use all avaible flow over the car.... either way your car would look great, however the black rubber will complete the same theme throughout the car. cheers Nick

Looks like most are a fan of the Turbo style. That's kinda what I was thinking too. Nothing like wrapping your A$$ in rubber....
Not to piss off the guys who have tails for sale, but can you guys maybe tell me how much one should expect to spend on such a tail?

You could do a search in the classifieds and post a WTB...that's how I found a color matching plain decklid.
Are you just looking for the tail to attach to the existing lid? OEM with good rubber goes for $500 up. Complete with declkid, grills, etc seems to go for $750 for one that needs work/paint...seen 'em as high as $1500+ for one in perfect shape. Just depends on condition. Keep in mind the cost of painting, etc. Probably the cheadpest alternative is after market fifiberglass. |

mine is mint like i said.
comes with all mounting hardware and even a nice strong gas shock. nice rubber, no cracks, no scratches...though it would need to be dis-assembled and sprayed white for you, that in minor work given that it would not need any repairs or blemish fixes. i would let mine go for 850 (USD) + shipping. I have already had it very safely packed up, and it might be gone by monday, like i said, if your interested toss me a pm and i will let you know if it becomes un-spoken for. cheers Nick -i paid 1000CDN 5 years ago for mine, in good but not perfect condition, now its perfect but demand has gone down i little i think.

How about just having a decklid and no tail. That will get the weight down where you need to lose weight and you will have one less "goofy" looking thing on your car.

Hey, I wasn't trying to talk the price down for him, just lamenting about my own. As I looked back at the thread I didn't want any ill feelings there.

![]() Here's the tail I went with, It's fiberglass aftermarket but I really dig the lines on it, and its not as big as the tea tray turbo tail. The other cool part is that it uses the stock engine grill.(no louvers) On the 2-piece tail/deck lids, you can see through the louvers and dirt/leaves or whatever get trapped in there and you can't clean inside there. Whatever you do, don't spill any wax in there. I know of a red Carrera with a few unsightly white drips of wax stuck in an inaccessible spot. ![]() Make sure you get one with good rubber. $500 for new if you can find it. Good luck.

I would not use the twin shock system either. On my 86 Carrera I tried that and it kind of twisted the decklid and wouldn't let it lay flat.
