No oil leaks is definitely possible! I have an '86 Carrera 3.2 with over 160,000 miles and it does not leak a single drop. I also have an '80 911SC 3.0 with over 170,000 miles and the engine does not leak a single drop either, however I do have an oil return line on the '80 that does leak a little in front of the passenger side rear wheel well.

I just wanted to "close" this issue. I think I have found a reputable mechanic in the area. He suggested that the oil leak was not a problem, and would be able to be fixed easily- an oil thermostat sending unit (I think). He also said that my cv joints only needed to be repacked, and not replaced (like the other guy said). So, he is fixing everything the other guy said was wrong for $300, rather than $10k to $12k. Plus, he gave me a ride to the train station when I dropped my car off....

He rocks!

Thanks for all of your help and reassurance. I hope this is a bottomless well, because I know I will make more withdrawls than contributions!

Magilla,

Congradulations on finding someone you can believe in! The other guy ought to be wearing prison stripes ... I would have to look up to be sure -- even if he said the sky was blue!
