86 & 87 930 what's the difference

I just got this book on the 86 930, I believe its an information supplement for the manuals, my question is what is the diff from the 86 to the 87, I'm pretty sure ? that there was a transmission change but was there any changes to the engine or fuel management, electronics etc.. between the 86 - 87, I have a 87 930 and was wondering how useful this new manual may be.

Your manual may be useful and they are good to have.

There should not be any difference between the 86 and 87 930. The tranmission change that you refer to occured in 89 as Porsche moved the car to 5spd.

89 is the only year the 930 had a five speed. A G50/50 LSD

G50 is the Carrera trans used in the 911 from 87-89.

The 86 & 87 Turbo trans is the same four speed as used from 78 onwards.

There's a few small differences.. 86 rear center reflector has black PORSCHE letters and 87 has clear letters in the reflector.

I'm not sure what year the antenna was installed into the windsheild, but it may be 87. Towards the end of 87 they got rid of the cyclops third brakelight on the tail and put inside at the top center of the rear window.

My '86 has the antenna in the glass, and the 3rd brakelight in the upper part of the window (where it blocks visibility out the mirror

).

The head lights are also different, the 86's have the older sugarscoop style rings which the 86 Carrera had in 1987they switched em along with the Carreras.

As has already been mentioned the rear reflector is a bit different and the trans is the 930 4 speed unit through 1988... 1989 is the g 50/50 5 speed unit
