Help With Engine ID and Paint Code
Hey guys, I need a little help here. I loaned my definitive Porsche 911 book out and don't have it for reference. I have a massaged 3.0L SC motor in my track car and was looking to trace it to a specific year. When I was looking for the engine number, lo and behold it is not stamped into the case!
![]() Engine casting # just below and slightly forward of where engine number is stamped - 930/16. Case numbers - 930.101.103.6R and 930.101.104.5R Can anyone help me figure out what year this came from? Also, why would there not be an engine number stamped on the casting to the right of the fan housing? Second question, but much easier. The car is a 76 VIN# 9116201017 and has paint code 908-9-2. What color was that? Thanks for the help.

Grand Prix White is color code 908 but seems to have not been a factory color before 1980 according to Paint Scratch.
I don't have my engine info with me so perhaps some else can identify the engine type.

Thanks for the paint code Tony. OMG, all three of my cars were originally white and I am not a huge white fan! The T still retains its white and looks great, the E is flawless silver and looks even better, and the 76 is eye popping yellow, so I guess I got around the white issue. Lol.
Any other help on the engine ID?

The lack of engine serial number indicates a replacement case. TT

Thanks Tom. That explains the lack of an engine number. The engine was custom built by Jarvis in FL and he must have used a new case. Is that a negative with respect to value of a track car?

![]() Actually the paint code for GP White is 908 and the color code is 2222.

Thanks for your input Tom. That is what I thought regarding value. I mean it really doesn't matter now since the car is heavily modified. Just thought I would ask.
