Out of Porsches, first time in 16 years

Well, the circle is closed.
The Kiln red/olive green Turbo has left yesterday with its new owner.
After 16 years, 5 cars ('83 944, '76 C3, '83 930, '73 RS, '87 944 Turbo Cup race car), I am out for good.
I have driven at insane speeds on track, taken them apart to the last bolt, gone to work with dirt under the fingernails (as a doc...), opened my knuckles more times than reasonable.

I have made lifelong friends, I have met unsufferable fools.
I have spent fortunes, made some good money with sales.
I have laughed to tears, cried in despair.

In 16 years, the scene has gone from weird enthusiasts to well heeled people in search of the next penis enhancer , ahem, social status. From knowledgeable friends to pompous pr*cks that wistake posession with knowledge, from low-key gathering to multi-million fiestas.
It is high time that I left, before my ideas become too much of a clash, a nuisance to others.

I will be back in Porsches some day, but with a less precious vehicle that will be used not cleaned, made more efficient, not pretty, and mostly, in my own garage, with no fanfare.

I will miss most of you.

Maybe that is why some us have these cars for a good part of our lives. ..It is not so much the driving or the working on the cars as it is the experiences and encounters that come to us just because of one word...'Porsche'.

Do not be gone long George.

Best Regards,

We early-car midwesterners salute you, just know there's always a drivers seat open whenever you return... even though I hear you have quite the penchant for bump-drafting.

Hmm... looking at this pic again... I think you were getting just a *little* too much pleasure driving MY car!!

George,

I just have to tell you.....my wife is quite the car person and some time ago, when I showed her a picutre of your red 930 on Pelican she exclaimed, "Now THAT flips my flop!!" That interior combo was just perfect. We appreciate the effort that went into that car. Anyway, the best of luck.

Steve

After selling my last three P cars, I said the same thing. After 25+ years, it's time to move on.

And I'm sure I'll probably say the same thing when I sell my next one.

You'll be missed, George.

You've been a valuable asset and a consistently engaging voice on this BBS. Hopefully, it won't be too long before you're back in the Porsche pack -- further from the guys who merely collect and closer to the guys who actually drive.

George, sorry to hear you made that change but I understand your reasons, you don't have to own a Porsche to be a part of this board in my view, just hang out and the board will be a better place for it. I just got a huge rock chip this weekend on the run down south, so I understand what happens when one gets attached to his ride. keep in touch!

Best of luck on whatever you do. I guess somewhere in the back of my mind I thought I might be able to come over and take one of your famous drives. That had to be the most unique travel experience any car buff could ever want.

I've always enjoyed your presence here on Pelican and I'm sorry I never got the chance to meet you face to face.

I hope you start missing the crowd here and don't become a stranger !

Stay well !

Hi George,

Well my friend I am sad to read that you are "out for good". How are you and little Vince going to work on a Porsche together if one is not in the garage? I hope you would leave a little wiggle room for the possibility of another Porsche some day.

Anyway now we will have to do the Passes on 2 wheels instead of 4 when I visit next time. There will always be an orange car in our garage for you and MC to enjoy when you return for a visit to the States someday.
