Driver side mirror installation - Anyone using this type?

Anyone out there have these type of mirrors?

I'm about to dig into the installation and start drilling holes on the door

The problem is that the two small holes on the base don't look like they'd hold, and one screw/bolt needs to go in at an angle so using a nut via a rivnut tool won't work. The base does have a hole in the center that matches with a hole in the main mirror housing... so I was thinking of using the rivnut tool and install a nut on the door for the center portion of the mirror that will hold the base and main housing and using sheetmetal screws for the two other holes on the base. What do you guys think?

I mounted mine with a back up nylock nut and a washer on the inside. It's not easy to reach in there, but I never had a problem once tightened. Can't find a better pic right now. Of course, the car is gone (sold), so I can't get a detail on the mount.

Sweet ride! Thanks for the pic. I'm sure you miss it...

Just a couple questions, did you only use the two mounting holes or did you rig something else up? What did you use, screws or bolts? How did you like the mirrors overall?

Thanks Milt!

Well, the mirrors don't offer much view. If I did it again, I'd use the passenger side convex glass on the driver's side. The Talbot by Aardvark holes don't line up with early factory holes; you have to choose one and drill a new hole. The base will cover all the holes and you can use the factory access holes to install that nut. I believe I used a sheet metal screw on the 2nd (new) hole. Whatever goofy j-hook thingys Aardvark sent, I redid.

No, I don't miss it at all. The new one will be better in every way when I get done, IMHO. Learn as you go.
