How do I turn the cam to adjust the timing when the chain is on? This is on a 85 Carrera motor.
Thanks in advance John |

Cam timing is WAY simpler than folks think. My recollection is that you don't turn the cam so much as you turn the crank. When you do the 180 degree rotating thing, if the timing is not correct, you turn the crank until the timing is correct, pull the pin, turn the crank back to TDC and reinstall the pin.

There are a series of holes in the cam sprocket. In one of these holes is a pin. Remove the pin (you can use a sparkplug) and the cam adjustment can be made.
Can I ask why you are adjusting your cams? Rich

Hi Rick,
I'm rebuilding the motor and starting to put the cams together. John |

to move a 3.2 cam to where you want it, loosen the bolt, leave the pin in, and turn the crank until the cam timing is correct, then remove the bolt and pin and turn the crank back to Z1, and install the pin again and tighten the bolt enough to keep everything as is while you double check your adjustment. then finish tightening the bolt. this is best done with all the rockers in place with close to normal clearances, so the cam stays put when the pin is removed. it will not stay put with just one rocker arm installed.
