Ignition Switch Install Help
I'm trying to replace the ignition switch in my 81 SC. I have the 2 shear bolts out of the front of the switch, the connector if off the rear and the stud and nut out off where it attached to the steering column.
I am able to push the switch through the riveted plate on the dash about an inch, but it pivots on the steering column attachment and then some of the threads near the key get caught and it doesn't budge. Is there a hidden bolt I'm missing? How do you remove the switch from the column portion, does it come out together, or is there a trick to slide it out? I've tried pry bars, a gentle tap with a mallet and it still hangs up. Before I drill out the rivets on the mounting plates, please, give me some ideas. Thanks |

there is a set screw in the part attaching the switch assembly to the steering collum you have to remove that is hard to see

Thanks. Are you referring to the stud with a nut, just to the left of center of the steering column? If so, got it. If not, where is this elusive set screw?

You must drill out the rivets as well. Once that is done, take the little plate out and the switch will come right out.

It is an allen set screw with a locking nut holding the steering column locking mechanism in place. Loosen the lock nut and back out the set screw, the whole iginition switch assy. can be removed at this point.

Read his post more carefully. He refers to that as "the stud and nut". And YES, you DO have to remove the small plate held in with the rivets.

Thanks. I was hoping to pull the switch without drilling the rivets and removing the mounting plate. The Bentley and 101 dont mention the added step, oh well.
