Thanks For Everything - GoodBye

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here on the board. I never “posted” a lot because everything that I needed to know was usually answered by one of the hundreds of knowledgeable people. I regret to say that I have sold my 88 cab - a car that was so good to me that it also made me look good!

With my car getting older & noticing that every Honda, VW, SUV etc, trying to race me at every light I knew it was time for a change. I quickly realized that I could never afford to buy a new 911 Cab so I finally sold it & I took the money from the sale (and very little more) & bought myself an 06 Lotus Elise. I know what most of you are thing – WHY?

Well, because there are very few cars today that have the look of the Lotus - not to mention the attention it gets. I never got half as many thumbs-up driving in my friends 06 911 as I do.

Don’t get me wrong - Porsche is in my blood, and I promised myself that one day I WILL buy another Porsche, but right now, I am beginning to enjoy the light and nimble, quick handling feel of this little beast. This is something that I think Porsche got away from.

Just my thoughts

Thank you

Carlo

Take care man... you'll be back!
I often find myself wandering back to looking at old Fiats from time to time...I think my first sports car, a 75 x1/9, is what got me wanting my first teener..which got me wanting a 911... so I sold the 928

Hopefully you'll still lurk. Those Lotus' are pretty cool. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I don't think any of us are wondering why. The Elise is a great, fun car. But buy an early 911 someday! It's another whole new experience.

You could do a lot worse than an Elise. I drove a student's at VIR, and they are very fast. Lol, I'd love to have one of the puke green ones. You never know either... a really cool Porsche may come around and suck you right back into the game.

Sorry to lose you.

When I started reading your post, I was worried you bought a Lexus or something...

Angry? Nah.

Jealous? Yeah.

I'd never dump my 930, but I do need to put an Elise/Exige next to it.

I'm sure it would be accepted if you posted a pic of your new car. We'd love to see it.
Good luck, and just think of the joy your old 911 is bringing to it's new owner.

I think the Exige would like very nice right next to my 1987 Cabriolet.

When you measure performance by ability at the stoplight dragstrip, you're not a Porsche person...

Tcar. Re-read the post and then delete yours.....no need to drive PCar owners away.

Good luck with the Lotus, they are an amazing car, no better, no worse just an amazing car. It is good to see passionate vehicles coming out of the UK again... (Lotus, TVR, The new ProDrive, Aston's...(yes before you jump in I am aware these are not UK owned anymore in some cases...)

Thinking about it those damm Exige's did always seem to get the better of me in the back section of Second Creek though - must have been cheating ........

Pcar owners are tougher than that...

...Second Creek, nothing but tumbleweeds now.

..."light and nimble, quick handling"...you'll get no arugement from me. Porsche seems to have strayed from that a bit but times change...although maybe that's a misconception as well.
Anyway, Sorry to see you leave but that does not mean you can't post here with your comments. The Elise is an awesome car, from what I've read. Keep in mind pretty much everyone on this board is a CAR NUT first.

A lot of us think Porsche would sell every "Elise-type" car it could build. A 2,000 lb, 2.0 liter, simple little... Porsche would be a very cool alternative to the very cool Elise.

I have to admit .. I have a major soft spot for the Elise. One of the few real drivers cars been made these days.

Enjoy the new purchase and enjoy thinking about the next 911... because there is a touch of the Hotel California with these cars
