i have a line on a set of 16x7 & 16x8 fuchs and am wondering if they will fit on a '73 with no flares. can anyone with more experience help?

They will not fit, I tried on my 74 without flares, went down to 16x7 all the way around.
Phoebe's progress (thanks to many Pelicans) see bottom pic with 16X7's

how much negative camber or lip rolling would be needed. i guess 16x 7 will work on the front.

I'm pretty sure you can't fit an 8 15 or 16 in the rear without flares. The best 7 for the rear would be the 911R offset. I don't know what it is, but I'm sure someone on here can tell you. Suspension settings, ride height, and tire selection will all influence if something will fit. Good luck.

the 17s off of my 77 wide body fit my 71 in the back but then the 71 had no motor in it...

Tyson Schmidt could get those 8's on, but it takes some work. If you are ready to run 2.5 degrees neg camber, the rest could be discussed. Not for the faint of heart; some serious tweakage involved where the trailing arms attach to the torque tube. Otherwise, just do the 7's and pick your tires carefully. |

I tried for two years to get 8X15 to work on the back of my '73, rolled lips, no flare. 2-1/2 neg camber and the smallest reasonable tire size still led to burnt paint and grooved tires. now have 7x15 all-round with replicas on the back, no problems whatsoever. BTW anyone got a pair of 7x15's they want to part with? will trade my 8's. Don.

7's are a tight enough fit...forget the 8's without flares.

I tried 16x7s on my 1970 911 with no flares and it rubbed on the back and stuck out on the front looking a bit odd to me. I opted out of the 7's completely and went back to stock wheels for now.
Like others have said, you can try to get the 7's to work in the rear by rolling the fender lips and adding negative camber. -Dan

You will need 951 8" Fuchs to make this work. They have more a deeper backspace than 8" 911 Fuchs, and therefore give more lip clearance, which is where the problems arise for 8" 911 Fuchs on early narrow body cars. Member Ischmitz is running 8" Fuchs on his '74 w/ 3.6 swap, and Marco, Mr914-6 I believe is also using these wheels-- see his recent thread on Treffen '07.
16x8 Fuchs on a narrow-bodied Targa 7" Fuchs on the front pose no problem, either 911 or 951, the latter having more caliper clearance and a lip that looks like a 6" Fuchs, with deeper lug holes. |
