Setting SC timing '81
When setting timing the book tells you to have "vacuum line disconnected". I assume the book is talking about the advance side? Do you have to plug the line or advance port on the dizzy also? Eventually I will do the John Walker and leave the lines connected and set at 35* BTDC @6000rpm but I want to see what the difference is.

Hi, pull off the rubber vacuum hose from the vacuum advance can on the side of the distributor and plug or clamp it. No need to plug the dizzy. Proceed as per instructions and remember to unplug and refit the hose afterwards.

Which one is advance? The one closest to the fan housing or the other?

Sorry can't answer that one.All the Porsche distributors I've seen have only one advance can, but I live in Europe and maybe USA models are different. Let me know...Good luck, Mike.
