transmission ID
Picked up a spare 915 tranny at Hershey a few years ago... now that the tranny in my car is starting to grind, I want to rebuild the spare I bought and then swap them. Can anyone ID this tranny?
915/63 740 1736 I think the 915/63 is from an '80 SC. I think the 1736 is the sequence number, but what about the 740?

It's an '80 US/Cdn SC trans
740 is the first 3 figures of the ID#

doesn't the 740 stand for something, like, whether it is a 5 speed or not? I do not think it is just a random number, but has meaning we can interpret.

Yes, it's a 5 spd, but all US/Cdn SC manual trans are 5 spd

You're right the numbers mean something. I don't have the specifics at hand right now (like "7" = whatever, "3" = whatever, etc.)
