915 Trans with limited slip.......

How do I identify a 915 transmission with limited slip? I'm looking on transmission sitting on a pallet and does not know how to check or confirm that it has limited slip as claimed by the seller. What test or identifying mark do I need to verify it? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Tony

Check the serial number on the tranny it will have a 12 stamped on it, if it was equiped with limited slip. Jack up the rear and turn one wheel the other side should turn the same direction.

The trouble is you don't know if the LDS is still in there. It could have been removed long ago.

Grab one axle flange and hold it in place while you try to rotate the opposite one. An open diff will turn easily. LSD will be very difficult to turn at different rates / directions.

If it's stamped with a 12, but flanges don't feel stuck to each other, then I'd suggest you open the side cover to take a peak. Like Brian said, diff could have been swapped. Conversely, the case may be stamped as a non-LSD but had a new diff put in.
